All our class work, in Hand Stitching Continued, was working towards the final project...creating a free-standing sculpture using techniques covered in class. I wanted to keep the format simple yet flexible and opted to have students design sculptures from acrylic craft felt. When working on samples, I was surprised at how well this material worked as a base for a small sculpture. Below is a selection of sculptures by students.

This was a really inspiring group to teach...especially since this was the first time I taught this particular class. It seems that the more I explore...the more excited I get about the possibilities using stitch. Who knows...maybe there will be a Hand Stitching Continued Continued in 2018!

ReplyDeleteI love Jodie's piece! She worked on it beyond the class and I caught up with her in a workshop where she showed me the finished piece (which are the photos shown here). She said that she was at first skeptical about doing a sculpture but really got into it and I think she plans to do more.
DeleteOOOH ... and I've just seen your own sculpture with its complex surface and delicious colours. How could I have missed it before?!
