Searching for Roy G Biv Challenge: Black and White

It's that time of the month again...the third Thursday. Jennifer and I are once again Searching for Roy...or after Roy, as I like to call it! This month's Search is for Black & White. My photos this month are details from the exhibits I saw at the SCAD Museum: Little Black Dress, Jack Whitten: Erasures and Stretching the Limits: Fibers in Contemporary Painting.

 If you are new to the Search, each month, on the third Thursday, we invite you to post photos of the color of the month. So here's hoping that you will post some Black & White photos on your blog, website or Flickr page and make a comment here. I will link back to you. If you don't have any one of those, you can leave a comment with your email and I'll be in touch to help post your photos. The Challenge starts today and continues through Saturday, January 19 (midnight Eastern USA time).

Ersi Marina or Ersimarina's Workroom has an eclectic collection of Black & White. Scenes of her bedroom, broken glass, her mother's gloves (a favorite of mine!), scissors hiding in striped fabric and a beautiful fractal of a rose.

Mary Jane reminds us that nature and its cycles have much to teach us with her lovely, subtle WHITE enameled moon earrings. 

Ersi has an amazing variety of WHITES (her color) from snowy village scenes, to swirling fractal designs to her own sensitive work with paper and cloth. 

Lisa at Arzigogolare has a spectacular display of  WHITE and shadow. She seems to have emptied her cupboards and set the contents  in the winter light. The ever changing shadows on her white ceramic cups and dishes are quite beautiful.

Busy in the Studio and Winner Chosen

 It's been a busy weekend in the studio. I've been working on a number of projects.

First, I wanted to create some fabric sets for Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery. The jury for the Holiday Show is tomorrow. I printed up some smaller pieces of colorful fabric. I decided to call each set a Deconstructed 9-Patch. There's enough fabric for a miniature 9-patch quilt including the binding. They were fun to make but if I decide to enter them on a continuing basis, I will have to come up with a more efficient way to make them.

I also spent a great deal of time working on the project for the next issue of Julie B Booth Surface Design News. The next issue (#7) comes out on Saturday, November 24. It's a multiple step project and the fabrics are now covered with a flour paste resist and need to dry completely before the next step. I'm looking forward to seeing how the fabrics turn out and part of the project is using the fabrics to wrap things up. If you would like to subscribe, it's very easy. Prayer Flags for Peace

 It's rather last second but I've decided to join in on the Flags for Peace Project.

A few months ago, after seeing a number of my hamsa designs, my friend, Jennifer suggested that a series of hamsa prayer flags would be a wonderful edition to the project.

I dragged my feet as I figured I already had too many commitments.

After the death of my dear friend, Martha,  I wandered over to Ersi's blog curious about her weaving a flag for the Project on a little childhood loom.

I told her that I was considering making a series of prayer flags using the special hamsa I had designed for Martha during her battle with cancer.

Ersi was very encouraging, she wrote, I wish you did join the project, your idea about the centerpiece is lovely and I'm sure that creating a flag around Martha's memory will be deeply inspiring.
  
So I am taking a deep breath and starting...
