Snowy Weekend with the Waterford Weavers

Alice A.

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of teaching a two-day workshop to a local weaving guild called, Waterford Weavers.

Penny S.

The workshop was a bit "touch and go" with a snowstorm interrupting our first day. But my intrepid students came in for a few hours on Saturday and then dug out for a very full day on Sunday.

Robin M.

We covered lots of techniques from my book, Fabric Printing at Home. I only wish we'd had a bit more time to print. I hope that they will continue...their sampler fabrics held much promise.

Anna H.

Thanks for a great class!

Exploring Surface Design a la Carte

Barbara H.

Wednesday night was the last session of my summer class, Exploring Surface Design A la Carte. This class is a four session version of my longer Exploring Surface Design class.

Having so few sessions each one was jam-packed with information. Fortunately, I had four students who could keep up with the barrage of techniques!

Unfortunately, my fourth student, Marilyn, wasn't able to make it to the last class but promises to send some photos for a future blog post.

Now that it's August, I'm having a teaching break. Even with that, I plan to have a couple of art-making play dates and one private lesson.

The new Art League School catalog just came out and I'm really looking forward to some of the new classes and workshops I'll be teaching this upcoming year. I always joke that I like to design classes that I want to take! I'm really looking forward to the workshop on Healing Cloth...can't wait to dive in and create work for that class! If you want to see my teaching schedule, check out the left hand column of this blog.

Organizing Chaos

Workshop kits in process

You know that feeling...when you have all the elements, all the bits and pieces out there. They are beginning to get into their appropriate piles but aren't quite there yet. That's how the last couple of days have been.

I am about to jump into a busy week in a busy month. As a 54-year-old, I am making another attempt at mastering multi-tasking. I have my Post-It Note list (what did we do before Post-It Notes?!). I finally got two different workshop handouts completed, a magazine article proposal written and sent and am now in the throes of organizing kits for two workshops. The next job is tackling the update to my Power Point program on Kitchen Resists which I will be presenting to two different quilt groups next week.

I have to admit, that despite the nerves (especially about the lectures), and eating too much chocolate, I am getting things accomplished. I even have the kits for a workshop I am giving later in the month (after I return from Maine) just about together. I am really trying to stay on top of things, as I keep anticipating the inevitable monkey wrench.

Two sets of workshop kits, finally organized.

I love what I do, I love creating painted and printed cloth. I love sharing my knowledge with others. I love writing about what I do. But..there are times when I would just like to have nothing going on or in the works...I have this image of laying out on a sunny beach with the soothing repetitive shooshing sound of the waves on the rocks and sand...Oh Maine...I am SO ready!!!
