I also brought in a screen I made using blue glue gel, an idea I got from Rayna Gillman's book, Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth. I highly recommend that you add this book to your surface design library.

On a personal note: I got a chance to visit Tybee Island again. What a glorious day! My brother, Jeff, his girlfriend, Robbin and I spent an hour floating and body surfing in the clear, 76 degree water...it was heaven!

Last night, was class number six for my Exploring Surface Design class. The evening was spent silk screening a la Jane Dunnewold's improvisational silk screening. The focus was on cut and torn freezer paper designs and my take on Jane's interfacing technique...using Lutradur.

A Bittersweet Evening

Tonight is the last session of my winter Exploring Surface Design class. It's a little bittersweet. Sweet because I will now have a month of not having to drive an hour during rush hour to Old Town Alexandria. Bitter because I have been fortunate to have a wonderful group of students this term. I will miss teaching them and will miss learning from them. Here is selection of their work.

One student's work is missing and that is Halle Butvin. She did some wonderful block printed pieces and I didn't have a camera, at the time. Halle had to leave the class early as her business was calling her away. She is the owner of One Mango Tree, a fair trade textile business in Africa. She is doing wonderful, worthwhile work and was delightful to have in class. I am so sorry that I didn't get a chance to photograph her work and hope she will send me a few photos when she has time.
