June 2016 Stitch-In

Ann Z.

Stitchers have been busy! It was so great to see all the creative stitched work.

Ann Z. is putting the finishing touches on her sampler book started in my Hand Stitching class. Here is a sampling of pages...

This was Maria S's first time to the Stitch-in. She brought in some of her rusted fabrics and a number of great books by Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn.

Peggy G.'s been having fun jumping off from commercial fabrics. I love the spider made from the Spider Web stitch and the flies (Fly stitches) caught in the web. Look closely and you will see the word, YUM in the corner.

I finally finished my Hand Stitching sampler book. I had fun working both sides of the title page and then deciding which I wanted to stitch the title to.

Julie B.: Back side of title page.
I tried spreading it out on the floor (rather than accordion-folding it)...too long for me to get a shot of the whole piece...around 10 feet long!

Julie B.: This is only about a third of the book.

Sarah H. and Lisa B. were also at the bee. And Barbara M-C. popped in for a quick "hi".

I'm really so excited to see all the different stitching directions...such a variety of artistic voices!

Printing Adventures in Woodstock, Virginia

Phyllis A.

I am just back from teaching a one day printing workshop in Woodstock, Virginia. Well...actually...I don't know if we were exactly in Woodstock for the workshop itself...but close by. My friend, Trudi, asked me to come give a workshop for her quilt guild. Trudi lives in Woodstock in a beautiful home on 11 acres of land. I was invited to come out the afternoon before the workshop and spend the night. I spent a lovely dinner and evening with Trudi, her husband, George and some of the quilt guild members.

Skeeter S.

The workshop was a variation of my Beyond Potato Prints workshop. I lugged two big bags full of veggies from home to play with. Also, moldable foam blocks and craft foam blocks. You can see that students had fun designing their blocks and carving vegetables...

Lynne C.: Carved vegetables

Stitchy Stuff Part 2

Jodie F.: Layers piece completed at the beach!

Yesterday, I showed you images of some of the completed pieces from the spring Hand Stitching class. Today, I'm going to show you some of the pieces from students in the winter Hand Stitching class. These are either new pieces or ones from class that were completed. I get goosebumps handling them! I feel so fortunate to have such great students!

Jodie F.: Layers piece completed.

Jodie F.: New piece created at the beach. Jodie saw the waves breaking on the shore and just had to capture it in stitch!
Jodie F.: Texture piece still in process (just a reminder that this is a 4" square!).
Erika C.: A piece that I missed but ingenious! She cut away one piece to reveal the back of the piece behind it.
Jan B.: Playing with the printed pattern.
Jan B.: Couched yarns become and angel
Jan B.: More Bullions!
Lee W.: A new layers piece.
Me!: A two-sided layers piece side one.
