Hi folks- Sorry this is a bit late this month. I'm enjoying my summer vacation with extended family up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This is my "spirit home". I spent almost every summer of my life up here in the Wellfleet area, so I'm happy to be back after a 5 year absence.

Searching for Roy G Biv #4: Yellow Final Update

It's the third Thursday of the month...time, once again,  to search for Mr. Roy G Biv (the colors of the rainbow)! The color this month is YELLOW.

I decided to focus on YELLOW items in my home. I had some beautiful late afternoon light to play with.

Searching for Roy G Biv #4: Red Update #3

Welcome to round #4 of Searching for Roy G Biv (the colors of the rainbow)! I can't believe it's our fourth time around...looking forward to seeing posts from old friends and hope that some new folks will join in the fun!

Just a little refresher...on the third Thursday of each month, Jennifer Coyne Qudeen and I host a colorful blog hop. Each month focuses on a color of the rainbow (in order) and then we continue beyond the rainbow with some additional colors. For all the colors and dates see below. This month's color is RED. I found this color at home, in the neighborhood, and on a trip to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

I was fully expecting to be photographing hearts (Valentine's Day) but Christmas decorations are apparently still up! Guess I'll have to save those valentines for November and Pink!

I love farmers' markets...especially discovering them during travels. There's something about the sensuous shapes and sumptuous colors of fruits and vegetables brought to market. So for my Roy G Biv Blogger's Choice I decided to go for a color cornucopia!

Itchin' to Stitch and Roy Reminder

After seeing what students were working on my Story Cloth class, I found myself itchin' to stitch!

I first decided to finish the second of two reversible placemats with a hand stitched border. I have one of these featured in my upcoming book, Fabric Printing at Home. I incised recycled foam to create the designs.

Next, I decided to get a start on my own story cloth! I printed the butterfly (or moth?) design (see above) also as a book sample (another recyclable!). I think some hand stitching on the butterflies will add a bit of punch to the piece. Because the butterflies were flying off the edges of the fabric, I decided to add some border strips. Usually, I add these at the end but I'm planning to stitch a bit on the borders as well. I want to use this piece for a sample for a class I'll be teaching at Artistic Artifacts on January 31 and February 1 called, Fabric Printing at Home: A Kitchen Sampler.

One of the reasons I got so itchy, was these new needles! One of my students, Barbara Mathews-Cieleszky, has a wonderful online shop called, Papillon Creative. She brought these lovely needles and some beautiful threads to class...and we all went on a little shopping spree! The needles are made by a French company and they are so superior to what you can get at the local craft store. I especially love the applique needles...so strong and sharp...you just want to sew with them!!!

Barbara also has some other lovely hand goods and craft supplies in her Etsy shop.

 I happen to be in Charleston, South Carolina so lots of local southern WHITE for me this month.

WHITE appears in a lot of the architecture and architectural details in this quaint but bustling city.
