Although it's been a busy weekend (son home from college for spring break; two workshops; getting the taxes done), I've managed to squeeze in a couple of more steps on the hamsas.
I painted the ovals behind the hamsa hands in a contrasting color.
I then cut freezer paper masks to expose only the painted areas for the next step.
I applied blue glue gel to a print block and printed the design across the hand and painted oval. I alternated the block to create an interesting pattern.
The printed areas of glue will protect this paint layer from the additional layers to come.
I have not been all that successful getting the blue glue out of the fabric especially after heat setting the fabric paint. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI soak it in really hot soapy water for at least 10 minutes and then work the glue out. You may need to use your fingernails, a toothbrush etc. if the glue is really in there. You might also try soaking again. I find that the thicker the application, the harder it is to get out. I didn't have any trouble with the samples (see The Reveal post) with multiple layers of glue..I will let you know how the hamsas work out. Other students seemed to have more success if they let the paint air cure for a week before washing out the glue.
