Julie's Studio Reports, "I Feel Years Younger!"

Julie's Studio: Yes, I feel year's younger after my purge and organize diet!

Look at me before...ugh...so disorganized...I couldn't wait to shed all those layers of excess stuff.

Now that I've lost all that weight, I feel so spacious, so full of creative energy. Look at my work table...it's like a clean slate!

I'm so ready for Julie to get to work creating her beautiful fabrics and works of art!

Julie would also like me to remind you that the second issue of her newsletter, Julie B Booth Surface Design News will be coming out Saturday, June 23 at 8:00 AM Eastern time (USA). If you haven't yet signed up, you can go to the upper right hand column of this blog and fill in your info. Julie's newsletter focuses on using the kitchen as a surface design resource. This time, she'll be talking a bit about me (her studio...I'm so honored!) and will continue to focus on getting readers set up to create some amazing fabrics. She will also send you a free list of Ten Kitchen Surface Design Ideas...just for signing up!

Also...the Searching for Roy G Biv Challenge continues through Saturday midnight, Eastern time (USA). Leave a comment here and Julie will link to your blog. She is giving away some of the fabrics she printed on my table. The drawing will be on Sunday.

  1. LOVE that the studio gets to report in from time to time!!! And with all that weight taken off...well, you've no excuse for not being creative. Now, get to work! Enough of showing us students' work. We want to see YOUR work.

Boy...am I ever glad you can't reach through cyberspace to grab me...by the throat, would it be? Ha!

    1. Yes Mom...I actually have some ideas brewing but first have to get a "hand" piece done for FINE. I'm attempting the Hamsa piece again...it looked so small on that 12 x 12 canvas...I've made it much bigger and plan to simplify. Then onto some weed pieces.

    2. Define "much bigger". Just how big are we talking? 2 ft? 4 ft? 6 ft?

    3. considering that it has to be a 12 x 12 piece, bigger is relative...

  2. I agree...interesting to see student work, but really looking to see YOUR work pouring out of that clean and organized space! It will be so much bigger now that it has more table to work with! Ha.

    2. Oh! There's a comment there about getting out of the weeds, but it keeping floating on the outer edges of my mind...

    4. Okay...in the light of day that was a snide remark and I apologize. You hit me at a low moment...aching back, long day at work with a few crazy customers. I realize that you and Pam have the best of intentions for me...although at times it reads to me as nagging moms. Okay...that probably didn't sound much better! I am on my own path and we will see where it leads...

    5. Ha! Love your way of apologizing. [written as I'm laughing]. Hadn't read the snarky response last night or I would have apologized myself for being a nagging mom...which I'm the girls would say that I totally am.

You're right, bigger is not always better. For myself, I've found working larger offers a freedom that starting small does not. It's also my thought process...my brain seems to work best when thinking larger initially...that's what all the what ifs are...large thinking.

No more nagging mom...well, maybe once or twice more... Feel free to tell me to "zip it, lock it and put it in your pocket" as they say at the girls' preschool.

    6. Not sure I could say "zip it" though I do like that little rhyme! It's not that I don't like the thought of trying big again...I loved those fabrics I did for Caos...but I often have to play/plan a bit smaller before going big...Guess we just have to agree that we have different ways of working. Julie will work big again...just will be on my own time frame. I'm excited about the crock pot stuff..got my mind "bubbling"!

  3. Another "portable" work surface... most home improvement stores sell a masonite board that has a white laminate surface on one side. You can get them to cut the boards in the store for you to the size you want. Although a bit heavier than foam board, they are sturdier, more durable, and you don't have to worry about covering with acetate. They are also good monotype surfaces.

    1. Hi Andrea-
      Aha...you read the newsletter!
Thanks for your tip. I'll be heading over my local hardware store (ie home improvement) for some other supplies and will try to check out the masonite board. How is it for relief printing?
