Another Book by Junko Oki

I had a recent email from the lovely Mary Jane Dodd. She's been weaving and stitching wondrous airy creations...most notably her mysterious leaves and her peace flags.

It seems that she's also been curious about the fiber artist, Junko Oki. She googled Junko and to her surprise ended up seeing my post about Junko's book, Poesy.  Mary Jane wanted more info about Junko so I headed off to her site...just as much to satisfy my own curiosity about what Junko was up to as it was to provide a link for Mary Jane.

What I found out is that Junko Oki has published a new book called, culte a la carte! Of course, I had to order a copy.

Although it is a small paperback, unlike the hardcover Poesy, it still has her incredibly rich stitchery.

Really like this piece as it reminded me of an eye!

Each page spread is a front and back (or back and front...they are both works of art!) of each small piece.

I think this book and Poesy will be perfect to share with students in my spring workshop on Healing Cloth at The Art League School.

    1. When I saw that she had a new one, I knew I had to have it! Wish it were hard cover, like Poesy, but love the photos of her work!

  4. Hello Julie, I have been fascinated with Junko Oki's work. Can you tell me what kind of thread or embroidery floss she uses? Also it does not seem that I could order her books in the US. Could you tell me the best way to order her book/s? I am work with enamel but am very drawn to the fiber and style of her work. Many thanks, Lucia

    1. Hi Lucia- She does have a blog but it's hard to navigate if you don't know Japanese. Try this link. You should have some luck and let me know if you don't.

    2. And...to answer your first question...I really don't know what she uses. I'm assuming some sort of cotton floss. Good luck..her books are really worth the hassle and once you contact her she is very quick to get the books out and very gracious!

    1. Hi. I'm not sure if Junko published these two books as a limited edition. She does have a new book out called "Punk". Here is a link to her site: http://www.junkooki.com/#!blog/csz2

She has a "books" section that you can click on. Hope that helps!
