Maria S.: Chain stitch sampler |
The theme for session #2 of Hand Stitching was Pattern and Rhythm. Students got to experiment with looped stitches...Fly, Detached Chain, Chain and Buttonhole/Blanket in a sampler. For the challenges they could also incorporate stitches from the previous class session on Line (and some even experimented with some other stitches!). Challenges included: using commercial or hand painted/printed fabric as a jumping off point; basing a composition on one of the patterns found in nature and playing with the concept of rhythm. I'm not happy with all the photos and hope to take better ones of these pieces before the end of the class.

WOW! Once again, your students have shown what a wonderful, inspirational instructor you are!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robbie...you're so sweet. I am happily surprised each week!
DeleteLovely stitching! I especially enjoyed the 'jumping off' pieces and the natural pattern. Your students are lucky to have you for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret..I love to come up with the challenges and love that the students are willing to play along with me!
DeleteWorking within a group can be so encouraging and you have set up what looks like a safe place to learn and explore...great stitches here!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary Ann- It's interesting that you mention a "safe place to learn" because I've been thinking about that a lot and truly believe that is what I try to provide...that and a sense of community in the classroom.
