UPDATE 3/6/23: The Tuesday, May 23 Stitch Mandalas workshop is now FULL. The Tuesday, June 6 More Stitch Mandalas workshop is technically full but I will take up to 3 additional students.
Welcome to Spring 2023! This season, I have a colorful assortment of live Zoom offerings to share with you. Registration starts on March 5 at 10:00 AM EST. To register, you need to email me at Threadborn@gmail.com with your date and time preferences. Payment can be made through PayPal, Venmo or personal check. If you are using PayPal, please indicate if you use an alternative email and if you plan to use Venmo, I will need your handle to complete your registration. I am offering a Spring Session Special... register for all three classes and receive a $20 discount.
In this multi-session class, we'll explore creative approaches to this traditional quilting technique. Students will use non-traditional stitches to enclose stuffed shapes; design layered stuffed appliques (what I call Off-the Base Trapunto); build multiple levels of stuffed shapes; combine stuffed shapes with cutaways; and work with sheers and non-traditional stuffing materials. In addition, students will create their own stenciled designs and hand-color commercial fabric motifs. Students will have the opportunity to further embellish their forms with stitches, beads and textural bits. Minimum 5, Maximum 20 students. Contact Julie for supply list. Tuition: $100.
Sunday Afternoon Class Section (3:00-5:30 PM EDT)
Hand stitching can be a meditative practice. Mandala, which means circle in the ancient language of Sanskrit, is a form often used in meditation to center and focus one's attention. In this workshop, Julie will teach variations of a select number of basic embroidery stitches that can be worked within a circular format with beautiful results. Stitches covered will include variations of: Running, Blanket, Straight and Couching stitches, and needle woven Spider's Webs. Students will create samplers featuring their Stitch Mandalas. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 students. Contact Julie for supply list. Tuition $40.
Choose one of the following workshop times. There will be a scheduled 15 minute break during class:
In this follow-up to the Stitch Mandalas workshop, students will have the opportunity to design up to two larger mandalas featuring layered fabric collage and the addition of a new selection of stitch variations. Included will be: Freestyle Buttonhole/Blanket stitch, needle lace, ruching and more pattern darning designs. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 students. Contact Julie for supply list. Tuition: $40.
All class sessions are recorded and recordings remain available for two months following the class.
